I respectfully beg to submit to and humbly request

case, and
your kind consideration on

my behalf. I am the bisher and Bailiff of the Supreme
Court of Hong Kong, which appointment I have held since the year 1848.
In the mouth of July 1856 I was laid up with sickness; and in the mouth of October following, I was advised by the Colonial. Surgeon that nothing
could do

but a
voyage to Englands

any good, and upon my to His Excellency he John Bowring, the Governors coupled with the Certificate of the Colonial Surgeon, His Excellency was pleased to grant me leave of absence for Eighteen mouths."
